An Ivy Bridge CPU is joined by better storage and connectivity capabilities

Much like the ToughBook 31 got an Ivy Bridge central processing unit a week ago, Panasonic has updated, or should we say upgraded, the Toughbook 53 as well.

The Intel Core i5-3320M CPU is one of the changes, with its 3 MB of cache memory and up to 3.3 GHz clock speed (Intel Turbo Boost).

The second change is the HDD of up to 500 GB and platter speed of 7,200 RPM (rotations per minute). Panasonic even offers 128GB, 256GB or 512GB solid-state drives (SSDs).

A third addition is the USB 3.0 Super Speed support. Two ports have been added to the sides of the semi-rugged notebook.

The change log, so to speak, goes on with an extended battery life (up to 11 hours on a single charge), optional integrated GPS receiver and equally optional RFID/Contactless SmartCard reader / Insertable SmartCard.

Panasonic Toughbook 53 is available with a three-year warranty for $1399 / 1081-1399 Euro. More information can be found here.
