The P720iD will display your mood with the help of a 128 gradient LED.

I am pretty sure almost no one would have thought of this if the guys from Panasonic and the NTT DoCoMo staff wouldn't have. Their idea is to display your mood on the front face of the P720iD clamshell mobile phone with the help of a 128 gradient LED light and using some kind of color code. Even if this idea would sound great to some of us (the ones that also like pink phones I suppose) there is a question rising from the many thoughts flying around in one's head at the first glance of this device.

Considering the fact that the actual displaying of your mood is done after the phone has analyzed the tone and patterns of your voice after beginning a conversation, one is forced to draw the conclusion that he won't be able to see what the "Feel Talk" technology doing all that complex stuff has decided to tell everybody about you because the mentioned LED will be facing outward from your ear. Maybe we don't have the necessary skills to do that or they've already thought of this aspect and will leave the user discover what everyone else already saw after the phone call has ended.

Again, this could be a pretty good and useful idea for some of us, not for the one that buys the mobile phone but for the by-standers that will be able to tell when someone is ready to commit mass murder or just feels like in heaven. How are we going to understand the color signals that this mood phone is going to show? Let's hope Panasonic or NTT DoCoMo will deliver the handset with an attached dictionary because nobody wants to get in trouble due to a misunderstood gradient light signal.

The handset, apart from uncovering your mood to everybody passing by, will also offer a 1.3 megapixel camera, a Push to Talk function, Chaku-Uta Full service and an optional miniSD memory expansion card slot, this way doubling as a phone ready to store all your favorite multimedia files.

The phone will be available for the NTT DoCoMo customers and will come in two different designs and in four colors.
