Panasonic has presented the KX-WP1050 WiFi phone that can be used with Skype, and allows users to enjoy incredible cost saving and at the same time a regular phone.

When it comes to design, users might have learned not to expect much from WiFi phones that are usually brick-like. This Panasonic makes no exception and generally looks like a TV remote.

The Panasonic KX-WP1050 WiFi phone comes with an 1.8 inch LCD for displaying Skype contact lists, call histories or the address book. It is compatible with free Skype-to-Skype calling, allowing the user to place and receive calls both with normal landlines and mobile phones and also supports Skype's online presence indicators, call forwarding and conference calls.

Users won't be tied down to a computer, and will have the freedom of moving from room to room without worrying about missing calls. Making and receiving calls will also work in a public hotspot and doesn't require browser authentication. Moreover, the manufacturer claims that it is a very easy to use handset, and the complete kit can be set up by anyone even with little or no computer experience.

"With the growing popularity of Skype and the mass availability of broadband in homes, offices and hotels, the KX-WP1050 will be a powerful communications tool for anyone who wants to take advantage of easily accessible and either free or inexpensive Internet calling," said Mike Timar, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company's national marketing manager, in a statement. "This exciting product will enable greater flexibility in communications for both home and business users."

It sports a standby time of 55 hours and 4.5 hours of talk-time, but the price, $399 is somewhat surprisingly high, even if we've talking about a handset that will save money in the future, by using Skype.
