Panasonic has just unveiled an upgraded version of the ruggedized Toughbook CF-C1 convertible tablet PC which is now based on Intel's second generation Core processors while also including higher memory capacity and a faster wireless module.

The Sandy Bridge CPU that Panasonic opted when it designed the CF-C1mk2 is the dual-core Intel Core i5-2520M, that comes clocked at 2.5Ghz, and this is paired with 4GB of system memory in the standard configuration.

The hard drive capacity was raised to 320GB and the series of upgrades didn't stop here as users also get an Ericsson F5521gw HSPA+ module capable or reaching download speeds of 21Mbps and an 1.3 megapixel front webcam.

Other features include a multi-touch 12.1-inch resistive display with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity as well as an SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot.

The notebook can also be fitted with one or two 4-call battery packs, offering up to 12 hours of continuous use in the latter configuration.

Depending on the number of battery packs installed the system can wight 1.49kg or 1.69kg, but either way the Toughbook CF-C1 can withstand drops from up to 76cm while operating and it includes a spill-resistant keyboard and a reenforced display hinge design.

“The latest upgrades to the Toughbook CF-C1 make this business-ruggedized device an even more powerful tool for the modern mobile workforce,” said Stephen Yeo, Panasonic Toughbook European Marketing Director.

“Its sleek good looks will appeal to people in image-conscious markets such as fashion, cosmetics and blue-chip food brands, as well as to executives wanting a robust, yet lightweight convertible notebook without compromising on performance.

“It’s as suited to customer presentations as it is to everyday mobile computing where speed, battery power and data input flexibility is essential,” concluded the company's rep.

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-C1mk2 will be available from July 2011. Retail price starting at 1,899 Euros without VAT.
