14 DAY TRIAL // Panasonic is a device manufacturer mostly known for its camera business, but the company also produces tablets, laptops and smartphones.
Actually Panasonic has just rolled out a new model which marks a first for the company, bringing a 64-bit processor onboard of the device and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box (as seen at Phone Arena).
The phone is called the Panasonic Eluga and has been launched this week in Taiwan, where it arrived as a budget-friendly alternative.
Say hello to the Panasonic Eluga U2
The Eluga U2 arrives with a 5-inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and bundles a 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor on the inside fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
Photography enthusiasts will find a 13MP/5MP camera combo onboard, which is pretty decent for a middle-range device like this.
The handset lives off a 2500 mAh battery and also offers LTE connectivity. If you’re wondering about portability, the Eluga measures 141.5 x 71 x 7.95 mm / 5.5 x 2.7 x 0.31 inches and breaks the scales at 131 g / 0.28 lbs.
The handset will be offered on the Taiwanese market for a price of $250 / €223, but we currently don’t know whether Panasonic plans to market the phone outside of Asia.
Panasonic also offers photo-centric smartphone models
Panasonic is not extremely prolific when it comes to smartphones. Back in September 2014, the Japanese company rolled out the atypical Lumix DMC-CM1, but this was a high-end affair.
The product is a smartphone/camera combo which arrives with a hefty 1-inch sensor. The device is built around a 20MP sensor working side-by-side with a Venus image processing engine and an f/2.8 Leica DC lens.
The CM1 boasts a manual ring living around the lens, which should allow users to have greater control over the images taken. The device also has a “ready to shoot” switch that will allow quick access within the interface, in case you spot something totally unexpected.
As a smartphone, the device boasts a 4.7-inch LCD display with FHD, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz and fitted with 2GB of RAM. Like the Eluga, this premium model adds LTE to the table.
