Smartphone camera photography is becoming more popular with users around the globe, but camera manufacturers are hoping that by releasing compact camera models they will prevent the adoption of this seemingly easy way of taking snapshots.

A while back, Sony launched the RX100M3 camera in the world and soon we’ll be getting another addition to the world of tiny cameras. The rumor mill claims we're to see another compact addition make a glorious appearance on the market, in the form of the LX8.

Shortly after this piece of news made the rounds, another aspect regarding the camera came to our attention. Since everybody is fretting out about 4K these days, Panasonic appears to be gearing up to give people what they want. Sources familiar with the matter are claiming that the company will be launching the smallest 4K camera in existence.

Until now, we didn't have any information about the sensor inside the device, but 43Rumors is currently reporting that a trusted source has revealed the Panasonic LX8 will have the same 1-inch 20.2MP sensor now used in the FZ1000, which has just gotten released.

What else will the LX8 bring about into the world of compact photography? For starters, the camera will have a 24-90mm f/2.0-2.8 Leica lens and will take advantage of Swivel & touch screen.

Compared to the previous LX7, Panasonic will be updating the processing engine in a way that will enhance JPG output. However, the camera will be 3% larger than the predecessor.

Much like in the vein of the above-mentioned Sony RX100M3, the LX7 will offer a built-in EVF and will have no hotshoe. Other specifications include the automatic lens cap, built-in 3 stop ND filter and the much-hyped 4K recording capacity.

In case you don’t remember, the Panasonic LX7 has been launched back in July 2012 and after two years, the company finally saw it fit to provide a replacement.

Anyway, as we wait for this little 4K-shooting midget, you could check out Panasonic’s latest FZ100 compact camera.

The device has just been introduced and will arrive with a 20MP “high sensitivity” MOS sensor working in league with a 16x f2.8-4.0 25-400mm lens that also comes from Leica (like in the case of the LX8).

The FZ1000 is also capable of shooting 4K, but when doing so, you’ll be limited to 30fps. If you’re OK with going lower at 1080p, you’ll be able to bump things up to 60fps.

If you’re curious about what the FZ1000 is capable of achieving, you might also want to check out the camera’s first 4K video samples.
