Penalty issued for refrigeration compressors, of all things

Panasonic has been making the news for a lot of things, and now it has antitrust lawsuit fine as an extra reason, though the cause for it might not be easy to guess.

Panasonic hasn't been good, so instead of present from Santa Claus, it got greeted by a different sort of gift this winter.

The company has been slapped with a fine of €7,668,000 by the European Commission.

That would be more or less the same as $10.25 million, not precisely a very huge sum but still quite a bit, considering the reason for it.

The EC didn't decide on this penalty because of something Panasonic did on the TV market, or most others of its business outlets.

Instead, it found that the company has been violating EU competition laws in its sales of refrigeration compressors.

Compressors are one of the components that everyone can find in their refrigerators at home, so we're a bit surprised about this news, though it does show that the EC takes its job very seriously.
