The DL1 and Power were the first Eluga series phone released by Panasonic

The first Eluga series smartphones launched by Panasonic, DL1 and Power, were only available in Europe back in 2012. After Panasonic announced it would pull out from the smartphone business, the Eluga series of smartphones slowly disappeared.

Even though they weren’t too popular in the first place, the disappearance of a smartphone maker is always bad news for consumers, especially if it’s a decent company like Panasonic.

The good news is Panasonic did not get rid of its smartphone business entirely, as the brand remained active in India and a few other Asian countries, where it appears that Panasonic devices are still popular among customers.

Even though the competition on the Indian smartphone market is fierce, somehow Panasonic managed to convince Android fans to buy its products. The company’s lineup of handsets seems to be pretty popular in India, otherwise we imagine Panasonic would have stopped investing in the smartphone business.

We’ve been reporting on the return of the Eluga series since last month, when the company launched a few teasers that confirm the revival of the family of smartphones.

Under a new logo, “Elegance for a new generation,” Panasonic plans to reveal its new Eluga smartphones to be released in India, on July 30.

The Japanese company has already started to send invitations to a launch event, as NDTV Gadgets points out. As mentioned earlier, the event is set for July 30 and is meant to introduce the Eluga series of smartphones to Indian consumers for the first time.

It’s unclear whether or not the handsets will be available for purchase beginning the same day, or if they will be introduced on the Indian market at a later date.

However, details about one of the Eluga phones that should be unveiled later this week leaked about a month ago, so we know what to expect from the mobile phone maker.

The so-called Panasonic Eluga U was spotted in late June in GFXBench database along with some of its specs. In this regard, the smartphone is said to pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 2GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up top 32GB).

The Eluga U is also rumored to boast a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. It will also come with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory.

As mentioned by the benchmark report, Panasonic Eluga U should be powered by Google’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box.
