The update should be available across all European countries

Although Panasonic confirmed earlier this year plans to enter the European smartphone market, the Japanese company changed its mind.

Panasonic officials stated several days ago that the company was thinking of withdrawing from the European smartphone market, though Panasonic only launched the ELUGA in several countries.

Anyway, the only product offered by Panasonic in Europe, the ELUGA Android smartphone, was launched on the market back in April.

The handset ships with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system out of the box which is a big disappointment and one of the phone’s main downsides.

It would have been nice for Panasonic to launch its first smartphone with the latest Android software available, but it looks like that wasn’t possible.

However, starting today, Panasonic ELUGA owners will be able to download and install the long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update on their devices.

The company confirmed it would deliver this upgrade for Panasonic ELUGA owners, but we’re still waiting to any word regarding Jelly Bean.

If you think upgrading the ELUGA to Ice Cream Sandwich is an easy task then you’re wrong. Panasonic invented its own way of upgrading the ELUGA to the latest version of Android operating system.

Apparently, all Panasonic ELUGA owners who wish to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich will have to download an application via Google Play store.

Dubbed ELUGA ICS Update, the application connects to Panasonic download servers and makes it possible for users to grab the new software update. Check it out here.

Panasonic also recommends users to connect their smartphones to a Wi-Fi network when downloading the software and make sure the battery is fully charged.

According to the company, it may take up to 100 minutes (?!) to apply the Ice Cream Sandwich update. For more details on the changes included in this upgrade check out Panasonic ELUGA’s dedicated site.
