The device will ship starting October 26 at a truly astounding price

The price of the AX Series easily makes sure it stands in a category all of its own among tablets and notebooks: $2,060 (1600 – 2,060 Euro) and $3,220 (2,500 – 3,220 Euro).

That is a lot, no doubt about it, but it isn't unjustified. As a notebook/tablet hybrid, this was going to be a peculiar device anyway, so Panasonic figured it might as well make it memorable.

Thus it was that the AX Series got landed with both powerful hardware (described here) and one of the toughest cases known to man, not to mention insides that can easily take a hit. Or two. Or a several-foot drop and roll/slide, among other things.

Watch the video above to see it survive getting dropped mid-chase, with a helicopter being the pursuer of the man trying to escape. It's a pretty short flick, but it makes its point.

Panasonic had an AX Series hybrid on display at CEATEC Japan (where it also showed a 145-Inch 8K resolution TV) and will ship it starting October 26.
