There are quite a few product types that Panasonic is known for, one of them being cameras, and it looks like a particular type of camera will henceforth be complemented by a certain development suite.
Makers of hardware always try to make sure that their newest inventions have everything that is necessary for it to be as successful on the market as possible.
Still, it is not unheard of for some invention or another to be bundled with some software product, not counting the driver, like video cards sometimes have video game vouchers and such things.
In this instance,
Panasonic is the one that played the software bundle deal card, pairing the D-IMager 3D camera with a special edition of the Omek Beckon Development Suite, leading to a high level of interactivity.
"Interactivity is a key factor when it comes to attracting and engaging with customers. Today, this interactivity using gesture recognition is now made easily available to developers involved with digital out-of-home advertising systems," said Ken Omori, General Manager of Marketing for the D-IMager.
Omek Beckon is a set of middleware and development tools that access the sensor's depth data and recognizes the person in front of it.
Once that is done, a skeletal framework is applied to the human forms, which it then uses to track their petition and rotation of their major joints.
All in all, this gives, among other things, an accurate level of gesture recognition which support both partial-body and full-body modes.
"The bundling of Panasonic's D-IMager with Omek's Beckon SDK enables creative agencies and development firms to easily and efficiently access this power. Our goal is to provide these firms – and others that want to add professional-level gesture system to their devices and applications – with the market's leading professional solution." said David Sternis, Business Development Leader for the D-Imager.
