Offers rugged portable computing

Panasonic, one of the world's leading vendors of consumer electronics and computing products announced today the launch of the latest addition to its line of Toughbook portable computer systems. Designed to provide consumers with a choice for a rugged tablet computer, ready to be used in extreme environments, the Toughbook H1 Field adopts a portable design and includes features that make it an ideal choice for portable computing.

“As workforces become more mobile, it’s critical to empower them with the right tools,” said Kyp Walls, director of product management, Panasonic Computer Solutions Company. “The Toughbook H1 Field was designed based on extensive customer input to ensure it had the right mix of form factor, features and durability to maximize worker productivity and value. With so many features that exceed the performance capabilities of competitive products, we believe the Toughbook H1 Field is best positioned to meet the computing needs of highly mobile workers, along with their IT administrators.”

At the core of this 10.4 tablet PC, there's an Intel Atom Z540 processor, clocked at 1.86GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM and a 64GB Solid State Drive. The tablet is featured with a 10.4-inch XGA sunlight-viewable 500nit dual-touch LCD and a circular polarizer with anti-glare and anti-reflective screen treatments. Other features include optimal integrated Gobi 2000 mobile broadband, Intel's 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR wireless option, GPS receiver, 2D barcode reader, 2MP camera, RFID reader, fingerprint reader, SmartCard reader and twin, hot-swappable battery.

The unit measures 10.4” (L) x 10.6” (W) x 1.3” - 2.3” (H)” and weights in at about 3.4lbs. According to the company, the Toughbook H1 Field is MIL-STD-810G certified, IP65 certified and comes with a magnesium alloy chassis encased in polycarbonate. The system will be available with Windows 7, but an XP Tablet downgrade will also be available as an option.
