IT security solutions provider Palo Alto Networks has released a new version of its malware analysis sandbox WildFire. The latest variant is capable of identifying advanced threats in Android applications.

WildFire is designed to capture malware both in the network and in the wild, and actively analyze it in a virtual environment.

If an APK-based malware is detected, a signature is generated to make sure users are protected against the threat.

“Protecting [smartphones and tablets] from cyber threats is one of the rapidly emerging fronts in cybersecurity, and with this functionality in the WildFire sandbox we provide an easy way for enterprises to protect themselves from these threats,” notes René Bonvanie, chief marketing officer at Palo Alto Networks.

“The Palo Alto Networks approach is a practical and effective approach, allowing for centralized enforcement and prevention at the network level, without worrying about the power consumption and performance concerns often common in endpoint solutions.”

Existing customers benefit from the new support for APK files automatically.

WildFire is currently used by over 1,700 customers globally.
