Mobile phone maker Palm unveiled at the beginning of this year a new mobile operating system webOS, which arrived on the market loaded on the Palm Pre smartphone launched in June on Sprint's airwaves, and which is now also available on the company's Palm Pixi handset, available via Sprint in the US as well. The company has come a long road with the development of the platform, and, after a series of releases that Palm Pre and Pixi users have had the chance to enjoy until now, the company plans the unleashing of another platform version, 1.3.5.

According to a recent article on PreCentral, Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein not only confirmed the work on the upcoming webOS 1.3.5, but he also unveiled some of the goodies that the upcoming operating system iteration is set to arrive on the market with: - Allowing for installation of more apps - Enhances WiFi and app performance - Improved battery life - Increased speed and responsiveness on the Palm Pixi

“Anticipation is already building for webOS version 1.3.5, which will also be highlighted at CES. Among other things, this update will let customers download and store more applications, enhance WiFi and application performance, improve battery life, and increase Pixi speed and responsiveness, ”Jon Rubinstein said, according to the news site. “Our 1.3.1 update was made available to webOS users in mid-November and within just one week it was installed by 70% of our userbase. This tells us that consumers are quickly learning to appreciate and look forward to this Palm capability,” he also mentioned.

When asked about the upcoming CES 2010, Palm's CEO reportedly stated that the company did not plan on releasing a new device powered by webOS at the show. However, the company will showcase the new Ares development platform, as well as a series of other developer initiatives, it seems, and also a series of other marketing initiatives that should soon come to light. At the same time, Palm appears to be planning on making its current webOS-based smartphones available on the market via a wider range of carriers.

“[...] we expect our momentum to continue. We will be launching with new carrier partners in the near future and we're please to have their committed, strong support. We at Palm will be working hard on the marketing front to support our partnerships, including the introduction of a new, broad-based campaign to drive better awareness of Palm products and our new carrier relationships,” Rubinstein further noted.
