You can find an Intel Core i3 CPU inside of it now

When it comes to mini PCs, their performance hinges on the quality of the central processing unit more than for other computers, since you can't just install a good graphics card to make up for whatever shortcomings the CPU has.

On that note, you can't just randomly change the central processing unit for a much stronger one, even if the socket does allow it, because the cooler wouldn't be able to handle the extra heat.

And no, you can't just install a newer and better cooler, because the case of mini PCs are just that: miniature. They don't have room for large coolers. Something similar can be said about the PSU-dictated power constraints as well.

Given all this, it's pretty noteworthy that Zotac's ZBOX Nano line of computers has held out so far. Held out and thrived apparently, to the point where the company is now releasing an upgraded model.

The Zotac ZBOX nano XS

Bearing the full name of Zotac ZBOX MI521 nano XS, the newcomer is equipped with an Intel Core i3-4030U dual-core central processing unit, or CPU for short.

The clock of the CPU is 1.9 GHz, but that's just part of the matter. The processor also enables support for two DDR3L memory modules. You can, thus, install up to 16 GB of DDR3 inside the computer, with a frequency of 1.6 GHz.

There is no add-in graphics card, since there isn't room for anything like it inside a system that can fit in the palm of your hand.

That means you have to settle for the CPU's iGP (integrated graphics processor). At least the Intel HD Graphics 4400 isn't the worst that Chipzilla has to offer in its chips.

As for the rest, the mini desktop doesn't cut any corners, not with connectivity and not with multimedia support either. The I/O spec list includes things like 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 connectors, and Gigabit Ethernet.

HDMI and audio/mic jacks are included as well, plus two display outputs (HDMI and mini DisplayPort), as well as a 3-in-1 card reader (SD, SDHC and SDXC). Finally, the Clear Video HD, InTru 3D and Quick Sync Video technologies will ensure that media is played in good video and audio quality.

Pricing and Availability

This information about the Zotac ZBOX M1521 nano XS hasn't been shared, but the 128 GB mSATA SSD and 4 GB of DDR3L minimum won't come all that cheap.
