Palm Pre, one of the nicest smartphones that was launched on the market during the ongoing year, seems set to receive a new software update as soon as today. Sprint, the wireless carrier that has it exclusively available in the United States, says on its support website that December 28, 2009, is the day when WebOS 1.3.5 Build 194 is set to start rolling-out over-the-air to all the Palm Pre on its airwaves.

According to Spring, the new update brings the following enhancements to the table: - Improvement in battery life optimization when in marginal coverage areas. - QCELP capability fix to allow play and audio of video sent via MMS. - Launch Google Maps or Sprint Nav when tapping an address from contacts. - Minimized package of MR size through binary difference. Customers can now download over 2G connections if necessary.

Palm has already announced that webOS 1.3.5 is on its way to all of the users of a Palm Pre or Palm Pixi mobile phone, and said that it planned on detailing the update at CES 2010, which is only several days ahead, yet it seems that the deployments are set to start earlier than expected. While the release notes on Sprint's website show only a small amount of improvements that are to come with webOS 1.3.5, the list might be a little bit longer, yet we will have to wait for Palm to announce the update to see what's new with the flavor.

Users of a Palm Pre should be already accustomed with the manner in which the update process takes place, and it is no mystery to anyone that Palm will notify them when the software update is available, prompting them to update the device. The process can be postponed a few times but, eventually, one needs to update to the new version of the operating system, this is again something most of you might be aware of.
