Syncing improvements on their way

The high-end Palm Pre smartphone has been available on the market for a short period of time, only two weeks now, yet it seems that Palm has already released the first firmware upgrade for the device. If we were to count the WebOS 1.0.2 update, which came into the wild before the handset's launch, this would be the second update for the Palm Pre.

The manufacturer has already published on its website the change log for the new update, and it seems that Palm Pre users are able to see some improvements with their devices, including better synchronization options, support for non-SSL Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) mail servers, and a series of other improvements to the Email, Phone, and more.

The synchronization improvements that the fresh WebOS 1.0.3 comes with include new features for contacts and for calendar events. According to the phone maker, those that have events created in your Google calendar that feature a symbol or accented characters in their name will now be able to sync the event, an action not possible before.

In addition, the improvements list of the new firmware update also includes: - Changes made to Google events or to Google contacts on the phone now sync with Google online within a few minutes. - The sync interval for Google events and for Google contacts has been decreased from every few hours to every 15 minutes. - If you create a weekday alarm on a weekend, the alarm sounds only on weekdays. Previously the alarm would sound on the weekend also. - Power performance in areas where wireless coverage is sporadic or unavailable has been enhanced.

The new update has a size of 13MB, it seems, and it will probably be pushed to the Pres, as recently reported. It appears that the speed and signal strength improvements have already been seen by those who installed the update, which means that those owning a Pre should do the same thing. More details on the software updates for the Pre can be found here.
