Strategy Analytics has recently made public a report that describes the performance of the newly released Palm Pre, called “Mobile Device User Evaluation: Palm Pre.” According to the research firm, the handset can perform very well when it comes to the multitasking functionality it packs, at least this is what those who have tested it are reported to have stated.

In June 2009 in San Diego, USA, Strategy Analytics undertook a user evaluation of the Palm Pre, and is now reporting that most of the participants were pleasantly impressed by the handset's performance. The multitasking capabilities of the Pre seem to have been highly praised, as they can offer a great experience, similar to the one delivered by desktop PCs, the research firm says.

In addition, Strategy Analytics also reports that the new mobile phone was able to do well in most of the tasks, and that the ‘activity card’ style user interface also made a good impression on the participants. Palm Synergy has been considered a very useful feature, as it offers users the possibility to integrate multiple calendar and contact accounts, as users were able to choose the accounts to be added.

Other features of the device, including contact management, music playback, camera functionality, calendar, email setup and Internet browsing, were also positively perceived, though it seems that the presence of the physical keyboard and the lack of a soft one was a little bit of a problem for the participants, Strategy Analytics noted.

“The lack of an on-screen virtual keyboard was a concern for many participants,” says Paul Brown, senior analyst in the Strategy Analytics User Experience Practice. “Although users liked having a physical QWERTY keyboard, they did not want to have to slide it out every time they wanted to type something.”
