After webOS 1.4.5 update was rolled out in Europe and Canada a month ago, a certain bug that made it difficult for PDK apps to save data was discovered. Even though Palm was made aware by the existence of the bug, the company surprisingly decided to push the same update through Sprint carrier, without fixing the problem.

While Palm users were expecting a future 1.4.5.1 update, thinking that the company will delay pushing the update in U.S. to fix the bug, the update never came.

The current 1.4.5 update that is being rolled out by Sprint is pretty intact and seems to be the same as the one that landed in Europe.

The 1.4.5 update was mainly designed to allow developers to submit PDK apps.

These apps needed to be locked, so they cannot run around the entire operating system without any control over their permissions. So, they were given permissions to write only in certain areas of the OS.

Sadly, the update is bugged and doesn't fully get all those permissions right, so some PDK apps are unable to write their save game data to the media/internal drive.   This means that some apps may be unable to save and others may simply crash.

Fortunately, the guys over WebOS Internals managed to fix the problem by releasing a patch for 1.4.5 update.

The Emergency Fstab Fixer worked with the update released one month ago in Europe and Canada, and it's proven to be a lifesaver for the update pushed by Sprint.

Basically, Fstab Fixer patch fixes the bug and enables PDK apps to write with ease.

As shocking as it may sound, Palm didn't bother to fix a bug that was a known issue since July, even though the company's long-term strategy for PDK apps seems to be of great importance.
