Palm Extends PDK Hot Apps Promotion

Palm has recently released into the wild a new flavor of its webOS mobile operating system, namely webOS 1.4.5, which is currently rolling out to users around the world. Soon after, the mobile phone maker announced the availability of a new version of the webOS SDK, one that now includes another app development tool, the PDK.

On top of that, Palm announces that is plans on extending the PDK Hot Apps promotion, and that it has changed the start and ending dates, which now are July 15 and September 30, respectively. According to Palm, developers should receive this announcement as good news. Since the dates were changed, they would have more time to make their PDK applications available via the App Catalog.

“webOS 1.4.5 is critical for consumers to access and download PDK applications and we are working hard to get it out to consumers as soon as possible. We expect that 1.4.5 will be available from more carrier partners soon. To ensure maximum reach and distribution of your applications, we have changed the start date of our PDK Hot Apps promotion, and we have extended the length of the program. The promotion will now begin on July 15, 2010, and will run through September 30, 2010,” the company states in a recent post on the Palm Developer Center Blog

The handset vendor is committed to promoting applications submitted to the software portal, while offering developers the possibility to reach a wider range of consumers with their solutions, and to climb up the PDK Hot Apps leader Board this way. The Hot Apps Leader Board is set to be retooled and relaunched soon, as the first Hot Apps promotion ended a couple of days ago.

“To ensure that your PDK app is reviewed, and in the app catalog on or before July 15th and in time for the start of the promotion, your apps must be submitted for approval by July 7th. Avoid the rush and get your apps in now. Developers will want to get in soon and start competing for your share of $1million dollars but remember if you’re not ready by July 7th, you can submit applications at anytime during the promotion and still be considered,” the phone maker concluded.
