A new version of Palm's webOS mobile operating system is reportedly available for users of a Palm Pre or Palm Pixi device, namely webOS 1.4.1. According to the company, the new software solution has been released both for US users and for European owners of a Palm device and comes only with minor enhancements. However, European webOS users are those to benefit the most from the new update, as the company has just opened the gates for paid applications in the App Catalog, a feature already available for US users since last year.

The new software solution comes as webOS 1.4.1 for Europe, but Palm has it listed on its website as webOS 1.4.1.1 for US users. The changes that arrived with it seem to be the same for all users, except for the ability to purchase paid applications from the App Catalog, unavailable for markets outside the United States until now. Other fixes are also included there, but only small ones, as the release notes show.

Among the most important changes included in webOS 1.4.1, we can count: - You can now purchase and download apps that are for sale, in addition to downloading free apps.(for Europe) - This release corrects a lag in the shutter sound when you take a picture. - This release fixes an issue so that newly taken photos and videos do not overwrite existing ones. - If you try to attach a video to an outgoing multimedia message, the list of available videos now displays only videos you recorded. - This release fixes an intermittent issue so that the volume slider no longer appears onscreen incorrectly. - This release fixes an intermittent issue so that after the screen more reliably turns on after a single press of the power button. - This release fixes an issue so that when you upload a video to YouTube, the file always includes both video and audio. - The forward gesture now works correctly in the browser.

According to PreCentral, the new software update has been released for webOS users in Germany, Spain, Netherlands and the UK, as well as for those on Sprint's airwaves in the US. No new applications were included in the software solutions, as it comes only as a minor update, weighing in at just 6MB.
