Sunnyvale, California-based mobile phone maker Palm is working hard on attracting developers towards the recently launched webOS mobile platform that runs on the company's Palm Pre smartphone. Thus, the latest post on the Palm Developer Network Blog announces that its preDevCamp will open its gates as soon as this Saturday, August 8.

All developers interested in building applications for the webOS platform, as well as others who are interested in the platform, are welcomed to get involved, as they will have the opportunity to learn more on the platform. People can sign up on the preDevCamp site, where they will find local camps and meet others interested in the webOS platform too.

Attendees will also have the possibility to win some of the prizes Palm will offer: “Cause we’re gonna have prizes! Several US cities have been sent some free copies of O’Reilly’s canonical book on webOS development, and even bigger prizes will be announced throughout the week. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, so if you want to see which preDevCamper can build the coolest app for your service, email info[at]predevcamp[dot]org and tell us what you have in mind,” a post on the preDevCamp site says.

It seems that the guys over at the preDevCamp also plan on having a preDevCamp Live page that should come online in the near future and which should offer developers from other parts of the world the possibility to participate. A #preDevCamp irc channel on Freenode will also be opened, which means that there are more ways for people to be present at the preDevCamp starting Saturday.

For sure, developers will have the opportunity to learn a few more things about the platform and the process of building applications for it, especially considering the large number of homebrewed apps available for it (more than 100) and the more than 1,000 attendees already registered. Stay tuned to learn more details on this.
