Palit Microsystems, a world leading manufacturer of graphics cards based on NVIDIA and ATI's GPUs, has recently introduced a new product that incorporates the graphics power of ATI's Radeon HD 4850. The new card is part of the company's Sonic series, which means that it will deliver an improved performance level, compared with reference models.

As some of you might already know, Palit's Sonic Edition cards come with factory overclocked settings, meant to improve graphics performance for today's high-end desktop gaming rigs. The latest addition to the company's ATI-enabled product lineup makes no exception from the rule, and comes to complete Palit's HD4000-series offer. The new card follows the introduction of the first HD 4850 Sonic, but delivers an extra 512MB of GDDR3 memory, reaching a total of 1GB. In addition, unlike standard HD 4850 graphics cards, Palit's latest product is equipped with an overclocked GPU and a custom dual-slot cooling solution.

The card's core clock has been raised to 685MHz from 625MHz on the reference model, while the memory clock rate has been increased to 2000MHz. Add native support for Microsoft's DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, and you will get a general idea of what this latest graphics card from Palit is really capable of. In addition, it comes with ATI CrossFireX technology, which means that if one of these cards won't do right by your system's graphic requirements, you can always connect another one to boost performance.

Talking about the card's cooling solution, the company claims that the GPU temperature is lowered by up to 20 degrees Celsius, compared with the original fan. Furthermore, the card is also 10db quieter, even when working at its full potential. The company hasn't released any details regarding pricing and availability for the new release, but users should soon be able to pick one up at their local retailers.
