14 DAY TRIAL // The National Response Centre for Cyber Crime (NR3C) of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has helped local authorities track down and arrest a man suspected of hacking into the systems of Warid Telecom, an Abu-Dhabi-based telecoms company that provides services in Congo, Pakistan and Uganda.
According to The Express Tribune, the man, Mubashar Shahzad, a resident of Kasur, is believed to have downloaded customer information from the company’s databases and leaked it online. The customer data leaked by the hacker dates as far back as 2006.
Authorities started investigating after one of the telecoms company’s senior managers filed a complaint. It took investigators only a few days to track down the suspect based on an IP address.
The stolen data was published on earlysms.com, a site hosted with HosterPK. The suspect’s IP, email address and phone number were traced through the hosting company, The Express Tribune has learned.
Investigators traced the IP address to a shop in the city of Kasur.
Shahzad’s computers have been found to contain folders named “Warid data.” In addition to two computers, police has also seized a number of storage devices containing the telecoms company’s database.
The website on which the hacker posted the stolen data has been shut down.
