The men felt ill shortly after taking their first bites, needed urgent medical help

There's pleasantly spicy food and then there are devilish and potentially dangerous culinary non-delights one might want to keep away from. Apparently, two reporters in the UK learned this lesson the hard way.

Long story short, these two full grown men had to be hospitalized after each of them attempted to eat one seriously hot hamburger served at a restaurant in southern England.

The restaurant is known as Burger Off, and the painfully spicy dish the two reporters tried to gulp down goes by the name XXX Hot Chili Burger, International Business Times informs.

Trainee reporter Ruari Barratt was the first to become ill after taking just one bite of the hamburger. It only took a couple of minutes for him to experience excruciating pain and for his hands and legs to start shaking.

Assistant news editor Arron Hendy, on the other hand, managed to hold his ground for a while longer. Thus, he only found himself asking for medical assistance about two hours after giving the hamburger a try.

The two men were rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Doctors here say that, all things considered, they will soon make a full recovery.

To put things into perspective, it must be said that the sauce used to make the XXX Hot Chili Burger has a spiciness score of about 7 to 9 million on the Scoville scale.

By comparison, the spiciness of the pepper spray police officers every once in a while use to catch criminals and law-breakers is one of “just” 500,000 to 5 million.

Hence, Burger Off always requires its customers to sign a waiver before allowing them to take a bite out of their painfully spicy hamburger.
