Like most of its competitors, Acer too will be adopting Intel's next-generation Pine Trail netbook platform, which includes the new Atom N450 processor and a new chipset configuration. On that note, it appears that a new netbook from Packard Bell, Acer's subsidiary, has just hit the Internet. According to available details, the PC vendor will be announcing its own Atom N450-based netbook, dubbed dot S2, a 10-inch system that should provide a choice for connecting to the Internet and supporting basic applications.

The netbook was unveiled by the fellows over at Notebook Italia, who were able to get their hands on a couple of specifications and pictures of the upcoming machine. According to them, the unit has been featured with a 10.1-inch LCD screen and is equipped with the aforementioned Atom N450 processor. It also boasts 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive, which will reportedly be loaded with Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system.

Set to become available in two color options, including Black Nightsky and Cherry Red, the dot S2 netbook mixes a glossy cover with a stylish design. The system is expected to deliver a longer battery life, when compared with that of current netbooks, thanks to the adoption of Intel's latest netbook technology. Additional features include a multi-gesture touchpad and a sleek and lightweight design.

Unfortunately, there's no word on pricing and availability, at this time, but the Italian website suggests that the machine might sell for between 250 and 300 Euros, although that is yet to be confirmed. Likely to debut sometime before the end of the year, or at the upcoming CES 2009 show, the dot S2 is an indication of what Acer will be preparing with its Pineview-enabled netbook PCs. We expect a number of these systems to be showcased during CES, next year, following the official debut of Intel's much-anticipated platform.
