More configuration options and better design

Acer's Packard Bell has just announced the introduction of an updated version of the company's ixtreme desktop computer system, designed to provide users with support for the latest in computing hardware, as well as a number of design features that are to enable an accessible computing experience. According to the company, the new system, which has been designed for gaming and multimedia enthusiasts, packs a unique and stylish design, accompanied by a number of high-performance hardware components.

As far as technical specifications go, the new system can be equipped with a choice of an Intel Core i7, Core 2 Quad or AMD Phenom II X4 processor. This provides the end-user with the very latest in computing performance, offering a choice for high-performance or a good performance/value ratio. In addition, it can be equipped with up to 12GB of DDR3 memory, 3TB of hard disk space, optional Blu-Ray combo drive, NVIDIA's latest GeForce graphics cards (up to GeForce GTS 250), or Intel integrated graphics solution with support for Microsoft's DirectX 10.

Aside from pumping the system with the latest in hardware performance, the new Packard Bell ixtreme desktop has also been featured with a new exterior design, one that features a more stylish chassis with top-placed multi-card reader and I/O panel. There's also a new “Phote Frame” button that will display images from the system's hard disk or memory card on the monitor, much like on a digital photo frame. Packard Bell has also included a “My BackUP” key that allows the end-user to quickly back up their data on an external storage device.

Packard Bell has also included a number of other options, including a few bundled applications such as Norton Internet Security, the full version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, Nero 8 Essentials and Microsoft Works 9. As far as pricing and availability goes, Packard Bell announced that the ixtreme would be available in July starting from £599 and running on Microsoft's Windows Vista Home Premium Edition.
