I would rather associate the Packard Bell name with radio devices manufacturing, since the company made its first steps in the industry in 1926. Some might even associate the brand's name with others of similar name such as Hewlett-Packard, Packard, Pacific Bell and more.

Packard Bell is not quite famous for its music devices, but that didn't stop the company from introducing the FunKey Town line of audio devices. Following some important paths in the industry, the manufacturers built the player around a scratch-resistant aluminum casing with some orange highlights, but they also used the smooth anti-shock white silicone skin, which - just as in the case of Creative players - it improves the user's grip and softens the blow in a potential drop.

The manufactures included a snap hook and a neck strap, meaning the player can be worn around the neck or just hooked onto a belt loop or bag. That's an easy job, considering the light weight of the devices.

As for the player's capabilities, it can play MP3 and WMA file formats, being compatible with DRM-protected files. The best news is all the players come with a whole set of funky accessories, so the user can easily customize the personal device anyway he/she wants.

The players come in various storage capacities versions, such as 1GB or 2GB of built-in flash memory, according to any user's needs. The battery life is unknown, so we cannot make an impression on that. I don't know why the fellows from Packard Bell chose this name for the player's series, as they don't seem to wear funky design details; this might have just been some marketing strategy. It didn't work on me, though.

Anyway, a FunKey Town device is said to wear a price tag starting from 33 pounds. Acceptable? given the poor specifications list.
