After having released its latest Dot netbooks, Packard Bell, wholly owned subsidiary of Acer Inc., has just announced the introduction of another computer system, as part of its lineup of portable PCs. The new system will be available as the EasyNote Butterfly, a 13.4-inch laptop that is based on Intel's latest CULV platform and is meant to provide users with an alternative to the increasingly popular netbook systems. As with the company's Dot netbooks, the new EasyNote Butterfly laptop will only be available in the European market, a consequence of Acer's multi-brand business model.

The Packard Bell EasyNote Butterfly laptop has been designed with a 13.4-inch LED backlit display that can be powered by either the integrated graphics or the discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics card. Users will be able to take advantage of the Switchable Graphics mode, a feature that has been integrated in the system and can provide a choice between battery life and high-performance graphics.

Additional features of the new Butterfly laptop from Packard Bell include support for optional 3G and Bluetooth connectivity, in addition to the standard Wi-Fi solution, HDM and DDR3 RAM memory for increased performance. The system also provides a choice for either a traditional hard drive or a Flash-based SSD, enabling users to take advantage of up to 10% battery life boost. Despite no specific details on the processor model that will be running this system, the company claims that the Butterfly laptop is good for up to 8 hours of battery life, using the Switchable Graphics feature.

Packard Bell's Butterfly laptop also combines an elegant and lightweight design, weighing 500 grams less than a standard notebook and being under 1-inch thick, according to the company. Although no pricing details have been announced, Packard Bell stated that the EasyNote Butterfly would be available starting from the end of June.
