New extended trailer offers a bit more substance for Guillermo del Toro’s new film

Since the first “Pacific Rim” trailer came out shortly after Comic-Con 2012, the film has been marketed as some sort of “Transformers” hybrid. The video above is meant to show that there’s more substance to it than previously hinted at.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro, “Pacific Rim” tells the story of how humanity created giant manned robots called the Jaegers, in order to fight giant sea creatures threatening Earth with complete destruction.

What follows is an epic clash of giants, with man caught in between.

This new trailer is tense and efficient in showing that “Pacific Rim” also has a heart, not just super elaborate and loud special effects.

Plus, it also has more footage and that’s always a winning point in my book.

“Pacific Rim” also stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Pearlman, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, and Brad William Henke, and will be out on July 12.
