It has variable rotary speed and should be pretty quiet too

Noctua has officially introduced a product that will strive to keep all cases cool, provided they have at least one mounting spot for a spinner measuring 140 millimeters in diameter.

Case fans are a curious thing really. They are available in a great variety, but they aren't really necessary for a PC to run.

CPUs and graphics cards come with their own cooling modules, and the rest of the components in a PC have no problem running at warm or hot temperatures.

The sole exceptions are memory modules, but even those have their own heatspreaders if they are particularly high-end.

It also bears noting that mid- to high-end PC cases have their very own fans too, usually, so standalone spinners are nothing but a commodity really.

And yet they sell just fine, and companies like Noctua make cash off them all the time.

Speaking of Noctua, it has introduced a PWM version of the award-winning 140 mm NF-A14.

It complies with Noctua's AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimization) standard and has modular cabling on top of everything else.

"Our NF-A15 and NF-A14 fans have been very well received by customers and hardware journalists alike," says Mag. Roland Mossig (Noctua CEO), "but we got many requests for a square frame PWM version for use as a case fan and on watercooling radiators. We can now meet this demand with the new NF-A14 PWM."

The NF-A14 PWM comes with a Low-Noise Adaptor. It allows it to spin silently even at the maximum speed of 1,500 RPM (rotations per minute).

As the quote says, the square frame of the newcomer allows it to play the role of radiator fan (used in water cooling systems).

Unfortunately, we don't have a price to share, not one that was included in the press release anyway, despite the 6-year warranty being specified.
