Owners of Sony Xperia handsets that were launched last year should see new firmware sent to them in the not-too-distant future, new reports on the matter suggest.

A new Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update has been certified for them, with version number 4.1.B.0.587 attached to it (up from the 4.1.B.0.431 firmware currently on these devices).

The new software has received certification from PTCRB for Xperia active, Xperia arc, Xperia mini pro, Xperia neo, Xperia neo V and Xperia Pro handsets.

As XperiaBlog notes, the firmware should arrive on Xperia arc S, Xperia mini and Xperia ray as well, though it might have seen delay in certification for these devices.

No specific info on what the new update would include has been provided as of now, but it could include a series of bug fixes, most probably complemented by minor enhancements.
