It seems that TVs that don't support progressive scan won't go along with PSP games

Those of you stuck with standard definition TVs out there might want to reconsider getting a PSP Slim/Lite if you were planning to use it on your TV set for games. An angry PSP Slim and SDTV owner sent this photo (left - click to enlarge) to Kotaku, mentioning that movie UMD playback works just fine, while game UMDs don't, because the respective TV set does not support progressive scan.

How about that? Did Sony even consider how many HDTV owners were out there when coming up with the PSP Slim? Sure they hope everyone will turn to the respective TV sets sooner or later, but given that they're not so cheap and not the biggest of necessities either...

Just so everyone's on the same level here, the new PSP Slim features some extras. Aside from allowing gamers to stick a TV tuner and a GPS onto it (which is already great), a more recent announcement revealed a snakebyte Premium Component & Composite Cable for the handheld, enabling PSP owners to connect the console to their TV set. The report went on like this:

"The 3rd party video gaming accessory pros from sunflex Europe complement their repeatedly awarded Premium Cable range with the snakebyte Premium Component & Composite Cable for use with the upcoming PSP Slim. The all-rounder cable is capable of playing back all PSP content - whether games or media and is on top fully compatible to all kinds of TV systems including TFT, plasma, and even older CRT," reads the report. So we suggest PSP Slim owners to at least take a look at this cable before purchasing the system, but as Kotaku says, the issue is with the progressive scan, and that has nothing to do with any cable.

Of course, as it always goes, as soon as a new system is out, someone's bound to report an issue. But how is this an issue? The PSP Slim is a handheld, why would you desperately want to connect it to the TV set when Sony went out of their way to give you a sexy, multifunctional handheld, sporting an immense screen? Isn't it why you're getting it, to view and play stuff on the go?
