"When will I get a PSP Lite?" That's the question that's been tormenting gamers from all over the world, but now it seems that Sony has an answer. The official launch date of the new PSP is September 5, at least for the UK, as announced during the press conference at the Games Convention today. We remind you that the PSP Lite and the PSP Slim are one and the same, so stop dreaming about two new Sony portable consoles, as this won't happen... yet.

Sony also revealed that aside from the standard PSP Lite Pack, there will be two limited edition bundles, which will include a couple of hot games. You'll have to choose between Spider-Man 2, which comes with Spider-Man 3 on a Blu-ray and The Simpsons, the gaming version of the latest blockbuster animation movie.

The voice and instant messaging services created for the PSP, will be available in the UK at the beginning of 2008, together with an on-demand video download service and a GPS navigation system. Seeing all of these features and that launch date how can you resist? The PSP Lite is two weeks away from being available in the UK and I know people that would swim across the Atlantic Ocean, only to get a hands-on experience with the new console.

With the PSP's new features, the device is one step away from becoming the ultimate gaming device, as it already includes TV-Out, GPS, Memory Stick Pro Duo, a camera, a microphone, instant messaging services and a neat Internet browser. Who needs those so-called "gaming phones" when we've got such a beauty on our hands? By adding VoIP support to the PSP, Sony has almost transformed the console into a phone... What's next? A small projector, vibrations or motion sensing capabilities?
