Just as Sony Japan announced that the PSP Go's production has been ended, Sony Computer Entertainment America has revealed that the device will still be sold in the territory at least until the end of the year.

The PSP Go was declared officially dead last week, when Sony revealed, after a session of intense rumors, that the production of the device has been stopped and that current stocks won't be refilled in Japan or Europe.

In North America, however, the little portable device will live on, as a representative of Sony Computer Entertainment America revealed to Joystiq that "We are continuing production of PSP Go for North America."

The rep didn't unveil for how long the production might continue, nor if its discontinuation is going to be tied to the upcoming launch of the company's Next Generation Portable device.

Alongside last week's reveal that the PSP Go was discontinued, Sony added that it is focusing on the NGP and trying hard to get the new handheld platform ready for its release, possibly at the end of the year all over the world.

It makes sense for Sony to continue selling the PSP Go in North America, as it recently slashed the price on the device from $250 to $200.

Still, that tag pales in comparison to the regular PSP-3000, which costs just $130 and has features like an UMD drive in its favor.

You can expect both platforms to be scrapped after the release of the Next Generation Portable, as Sony wants to make the new device as attractive as possible.

The NGP, according to the most recent batch of rumors, is set to appear at the end of the year in at least one territory, as Sony needs to get it on the market before the new Nintendo 3DS secures a big advantage over it.
