The biggest hardware seller in Japan, the PlayStation Portable, has seen quite a drop in the week that ended on March 14 but managed to keep its first place in terms of units per overall model, while Pokemon Ranger kept its first place in the videogame chart, showing that the collectable-based franchise still has a lot of power in the Japanese game world.
The PSP from Sony has succeeded in selling 39,125 units in seven days, which is significantly lower than the 64,808 shipped between March 1 and 7.
If the slowdown continues, then next week, we might see the Sony handheld lose its leading position to the
Nintendo Wii that also saw a sales reduction but a much smaller one, to 31,460 units. The PlayStation 3 sits in third with 26,481 consoles moved to gamers, also on a downward trend.
The DSi LL, the one with the bigger screen, set to arrive in late April in the United States, is the best seller of the Nintendo handheld line, with 21,604 units shipped before March 14, about 2,000 less than during the week before, the regular DSi following with 13,581 and the Lite version slowing down to 3,920. The Xbox 360 from Microsoft is at 2,668 units sold, while the PlayStation 2, a ten-year-old home console, managed to outsell the PSP Go, launched in 2009.
When it comes to videogames,
Pokemon Ranger: Hikari no Kiseki from Nintendo for the DS succeeded in selling 65,355 units, while Tomodachi Collection managed to jump to second place, making a top three for Nintendo, New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii taking third spot. What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!?, known in the West as Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman, took fourth place as a new entry, while Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce 2 from Koei is in fifth.
