Games industry analyst Colin Sebastian has shared some insight on the next-gen console war and how the PS4 is currently winning the hearts and minds of core gamers, while the Xbox One is enjoying popularity amongst casual, mass market consumers.

The PS4 and Xbox One retail performance has been analyzed by Baird Equity Research's Colin Sebastian, and he revealed to GamesIndustry that the PS4 was more popular thanks to its dedication to core gamers.

"[PS4] appears to have a slight momentum edge among core gamers, as demonstrated by premium prices paid on eBay and persistent out-of-stock reports from our retail checks. Nonetheless, Microsoft's Xbox One seems to have fared well among mass market/big box retailers, in part due to its positioning as a living room entertainment hub."

Baird also predicted that, by the end of February and beginning of March, retailers will have the two consoles in permanent stock.
