Sony confirms that it's reached a brand-new milestone in the life cycle of the PS4 platform, as the new home console has managed to sell 20.2 million units worldwide as of March 1, 2015, continuing the very steady stream of profit for the Japanese corporation.

The PS4 was revealed to the world way back in February of 2013 and made its market debut in a select number of countries in November of that year. Since then, the console has been rolled out across multiple territories and sales have picked up rather well, effectively putting it in the first spot over its main rival, Microsoft's Xbox One.

The PS4 has sold over 20.2 million units at the end of winter

Now, Sony confirms that over 20.2 million units have been sold worldwide as of March 1. This shows that around 2 million units have been purchased by customers since the beginning of January, when Sony mentioned that 18.5 million units have been sold by that point.

As you can imagine, Sony is quite pleased with the new milestone and pledges to continue to offer great experiences and games to all those who bought the PS4 worldwide.

"We are so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation fans worldwide, and we are truly humbled that gamers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play," PlayStation boss Andrew House says. "We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver unique and interactive entertainment experiences powered by the network and the PS4 system's deep social capabilities."

Sony also amps up major upcoming games for the PS4, from exclusives like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Bloodborne, or Tearaway Unfolded, to big third-party experiences like Batman: Arkham Knight, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and much more.

As of right now, the PS4 is available in 123 countries worldwide and should continue its great sales, even if Microsoft is implementing price cuts and other deals to make the Xbox One more attractive.
