Sony confirmed that the recent details about the PlayStation 4 have given the PlayStation Vita a boost in terms of sales, as many future PS4 owners see the advantage in having a PS Vita as a companion device.

Sony launched the PS Vita at the beginning of 2012 and, while quite a few games were released for it and the handheld was included eventually into the PlayStation Plus service, sales still aren't that good.

Thankfully, according to Sony's UK Managing Director, Fergal Gara, the PlayStation 4's announcement resulted in better sales for the portable device.

While Sony tried to promote the PS Vita as a companion device for the PS3, the PS4 is a much better console with which to promote the handheld.

"The number of things we could demonstrate and prove was limited - there's been some good examples - but now we go into the PS4 era, that companion device will look far more clear. We're optimistic it's got a lot more legs left in it and the PS4 has given it a shot in the arm," Gara told GI.

The PS4 will be launched at the end of the year, so potential owners have more than enough time to get a PS Vita.
