A brand new report has appeared online about Sony's future plans for the PlayStation 4, including a pretty massive bombshell about local support for PS1 and PS2 games, complete with 1080p rendering for select titles.

The PlayStation 4 has been selling extremely well in recent months, managing to reach the 6-million-unit milestone at the beginning of March.

The company is still struggling to meet the big demand for the new console, but it's also working on plenty of major upcoming features and services for it, in order to keep it as attractive as possible.

Now, industry insider Thuway has once again spoiled some of Sony's plans on Twitter, confirming a few big bombshells.

First up, it seems that the PS4 will receive local support for PS1 and PS2 games, effectively a backwards compatibility feature but only for older consoles. Select titles will also be available with native 1080p rendering, although it's unclear just how that might work.

Improvements to the Blu-ray and media player features are also coming, according to the insider.

Last but not least, expect to see more virtual reality demonstrations for upcoming PS4 games at different trade shows in the future, as Sony wants as much feedback as possible from gamers and developers before settling on a final version of Project Morpheus.
