A brand new report has appeared online claiming that the impressive PS4 system software update 1.70 will launch on April 30, citing a date posted and then removed by Sony on its Japanese website.

The PlayStation 4 is set to receive a wide variety of brand new features with the next major firmware update, which takes the software of the console to version 1.70 and brings things like the ShareFactory video editor, more Share functions, or the removal of the HDCP encryption on HDMI connections.

Sony confirmed quite a few of these new functions yesterday but declined to mention when the new system software update would actually launch, so it's unclear when all PS4 owners worldwide will be able to get the update.

DualShockers, however, has managed to capture a quick switcheroo from Sony's Japanese division, which posted yesterday on the official blog a confirmation that the next PS4 firmware would bring support for the local Nico Nico service on April 30.

The date, however, was quickly removed from the website and the paragraph was changed to say that the update would appear in the near future.

No explanation was given, so it's quite possible that either Sony is still testing the update and isn't sure about the release date, or it just wants to keep gamers guessing about when they can install the firmware on their PS4 consoles.
