Sony has officially revealed some details about the PlayStation 4 firmware update 1.70, confirming that it will include a video editor application called ShareFactory and that it will enable the preloading of digital games from the PS Store, besides other things.

Sony said last month that its next system software update for the PS4 would bring forth a variety of different improvements, including the possibility of saving gameplay footage and screenshots onto USB sticks or the removal of the HDCP encryption when recording gameplay via HDMI.

Now, the company has elaborated on the new firmware update, which takes the PS4's software to version 1.70.

Among the biggest new features is ShareFactory, an all-new video editor application that allows owners of the PS4 to easily combine, edit, and share their gameplay videos.

"With ShareFactory, you can now easily combine your captured video clips for editing, personalize them with special effects using filters, transitions, and themes, as well as share them with your friends and social networks," Sony said on its PS blog.

"ShareFactory also allows you to personalize your videos by adding text, stickers, and a set of included audio tracks, as well as video commentary with picture-in-picture capability with PlayStation Camera. It also allows you to import your original music to add to the custom soundtrack for your video."

Thanks to the new firmware 1.70, PS4 owners will be able to share their videos through the existing Facebook integration but also to save them onto USB sticks so that they can be shared through a computer via other services.

The PS4 Share system is also getting improved options, as players will be able to change the recording time of their gameplay, choose who gets to see them, and modify the default saves for screenshots and video clips.

The HDCP removal is still coming in the new software, meaning you'll be able to easily capture footage from the PS4 using an HDMI connection

Besides these technical improvements, the new PS4 firmware will also enable the preload function for games purchased on the PS Store, meaning you can start playing a title right when it's released officially.

The PS4 firmware update version 1.70 is set to appear "soon," according to Sony, but no exact time frame has been given. The company has also teased that many other surprises will be revealed about the system software, so expect to see even more features confirmed in the next few days.
