A brand new report concerning the next PlayStation 4 firmware update 1.7 has just appeared online, claiming that it will bring quite a few surprises, including a better video editor, a smoother friends list, and many other features besides the ones already confirmed.

Sony revealed last month that its next big system software update for the PlayStation 4 would go live this month and brings a few long awaited enhancements, such as the removal of the HDCP encryption on gameplay footage via HDMI, not to mention the option of saving gameplay video and screenshots onto a USB stick.

Now, industry insider Tidux has confirmed on NeoGAF some more details about firmware update 1.7, promising that surprises are coming for users.

First up, it seems that the friends list will be improved and those with lots of people in it should be able to interact with it in a smoother manner.

The firmware might also allow for a better sorting of games, but it's unclear if the feature will make it into the final release.

Last but not least, the video editor promised by the new software has been developed in partnership with Sony's Vegas team which, in case you don't know, is in charge of the popular video editing software for computers.

The firmware will apparently receive all the details this week and will launch worldwide next week but, so far, this is just a rumor.
