Accessibility options are also coming in the software update

A few of the new features coming to the PS4 via firmware update 2.50 have just been leaked through a series of screenshots, confirming things like backup to external storage of save game files and applications, not to mention new accessibility options for those that require them.

The PS4 has been around for over a year now, and while Sony has released quite a few different firmware updates to improve the console's system software, it hasn't exactly added many features to the device's repertoire.

Thankfully, the next firmware update, which takes the console's software to version 2.50, should bring a few long-awaited options, like suspend and resume for applications and games.

However, while the system software is in beta testing with a select number of PS4 owners, not much else is known about it.

A new leak confirms plenty of big options

Thankfully, a new leak has surfaced online, via Polygon, which backs up its claims through photos of the new PS4 menu options brought by update 2.50.

First and foremost, the new firmware apparently allows PS4 owners to back up their files, whether they're save games, not to mention actual applications or game files, to external storage options, similar to how the PS Vita backup system works.

The new update also includes a variety of accessibility options, which can convert text to speech, zoom in on certain elements, invert colors, increase or bold the text, or offer closed captions.

The new mechanics should make the PS4 way more accessible for people with disabilities or who need certain options to operate the device as intended.

For what it's worth, Sony has offered a small comment on the leak, saying that it's still working on all the features coming to the PS4 via firmware update 2.50, so it can't confirm or deny anything just yet.

Expect some form of full announcement about the new system software update for the PS4 in the very near future.
