Michael Pachter believes Sony and Microsoft are preparing discounts

Games industry analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 will receive price cuts next month, largely because lots of third-party publishers are threatening them with lack of game releases.

The PS4 and Xbox One were released last November and have already sold quite a few units. Even so, neither Sony nor Microsoft has cut the price on their current-gen consoles, the PS3 or Xbox 360.

According to Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, who talked in a new GameTrailers Bonus Round, third-party publishers aren't that happy with the lack of a price cut.

As such, some are even threatening Sony and Microsoft with a lack of game releases in 2014's winter holiday season.

Ergo, according to the analyst, the PS3 and Xbox 360 will get price cuts to around the 199 USD/EUR mark in February.
