And it seems this will be the trend

Grand Theft Auto IV is not only the most anticipated video game of 2008, but it is also used as a weapon - a very powerful one - in the never-ending console war. We already know that Microsoft payed Rockstar some $50 million dollars for the downloadable content and it also seems they are going to offer promotional Xbox consoles packed with a free copy of GTA IV in Australia.

Basically, if we are to paraphrase a Dune character - he who controls Grand Theft Auto, controls the world. Or, at least, is one step closer to being crowned the console king.

In what could be another strategy developed solely from the console's war point of view and having nothing to do with the game itself, we find out, via videogaming247.com, that the UK prices of GTA IV vary from one console to another. WHSmiths, major gaming retailer, has already priced GTA IV for the Playstation 3 at ?44.99 (about $100), while the Xbox 360 version is ?5 (about $10) less expensive. Also, it seems this will not be a singular case, since both Game and GameStation store managers stated that they think the PS3 version would be a bit more expensive than the Xbox 360.

However, it seems that, in the end, Rockstar dictates the tempo: "The PS3 version will probably cost more. We're expecting an RRP from Rockstar on April 14," the GameStation staffer said. "They dictate the price, basically."

One reason for the price difference could be the BD of the PS3 version - but that's pretty hard to believe. Others are already suggesting that it is part of the "deal" between Microsoft and Rockstar. Whatever it is, if it has anything to do with the war between the consoles and it's not a "technical" thing or something decided solely by the developers, then I must say I'm disappointed. Let the gamers choose their favorite console, don't use dirty tricks, please!
