As you all know, the statements surrounding
PS3's name were something else. Words like "it is a total disaster" kept hitting until the console's future became threatened. Some even said that it should be taken from scratch and made all over again, claiming the machine's appearance does not impress.
This was because, though it is the largest name in console gaming today, it is not at all alone on the market, having to compete
with truly powerful rivals like Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii. Everything went pretty smooth for these guys, which is more than we can say about Sony's new machine. The problems began even before the launching date was set, and even that is one of them. "The largest name in console gaming today", I'm sure those aren't just words.
There is another important fact to be added and that is the
Cell processor, PS3's heart, which, as one Business 2.0 writer says, would do much more if only game developers knew how to put it to good use, thus shedding some light on another matter: the lack of good titles for the PS3.
Top executives like Kutaragi made a huge difference, but a different approach is recommended if
Sony wants to stay in top. Of course that the platform's price is also a discussion point, as it doesn't reflect or justify the machine's potential.
A year is estimated before Sony really will have something to worry about, but it doesn't necessarily mean the good news, or bad news about the platform are true. All we have to take into consideration is what we see. The rest is a different matter all together. Everyone is able to make statements and some are even trained to do it if it brings a lot of attention.
