Thatgamecompany has announced that its hit exploration game Journey will be making its way to the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system from Sony sometime this summer.

The game was initially released on the PlayStation 3 home console back in 2012, winning several game of the year awards and being lauded for the unique and serene experience it offers to users.

Players assume control of a mysterious robed figure and then proceed to walk across a vast desert, with the goal of reaching a distant mountain on the horizon.

There is no gameplay in the traditional sense, no combat, and the level of interaction with the world is minimal. The robed character can charge its scarf and then use it to briefly float through the air.

There's also a very limited amount of multiplayer interaction, as you can meet other players during their journey, but the only form of communication available is a musical chime.

Although the game might be considered pointless when compared to the traditional design video games follow, its creators sought to deliver a unique feeling of wonder by offering something completely different to gamers.

A moving experience delivered in a unique way

The entire experience of playing the game is moving and emotional, and there are various hints, paintings and obelisks that offer a sort of greater picture and reveal information regarding the lore of the game.

The story is told without words, through cutscenes and the environment, and the game's atmosphere and unique visual style are what makes it shine.

The PlayStation 4 edition of Journey was announced at Gamescom last year, and now it looks like the development team is ready to commit to a summer release window, as Gamespot reports.

The game will be made available both digitally as well as in retail, remastered to run in a full HD 1080p resolution, at a smooth 60 frames per second, in order to provide the best experience possible.

Furthermore, the game will be cross-buy enabled, which pretty much means that gamers who already own the PS3 version on PSN will get the PS4 edition free of charge upon the title's launch.
