PS3 Gets 6 New Titles This Week

- Time to see whether the PS3 actually needed titles to start shifting units

By: Filip Truta, Games Editor

With the release of these six titles, everyone can finally answer this question: was Sony's PlayStation 3 doing bad because of the small library of titles? Had just two of the six games listed below been launching this week, it still would have made a difference as to whether the PS3 needed titles to shift units, or whether people just don't need the
system.

According to ps3blog.net, the following six games – spanning the "platform", "interactive card game," "FPS," "action-adventure," and "racing" genres – all launch this week, for Sony's next-generation console:

- Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
- The Eye of Judgment
- Clive Barker’s Jericho
- Conan
- Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights
- Ratatouille

Of course, hardcore gamers and owners of Sony's machine aren't going to be that excited about The Eye of Judgment being released on their expensive platform, nor will they be too impressed to see that THQ's God of War rip-off, Conan, is hitting the system this week. Just 3 or 4 games from the list above are worthy of the Cell Broadband Engine at most, but it's still enough to tell whether the PS3 needs titles to start moving.

You're probably wondering why all the emphasis on getting the PS3 moving. Well, just yesterday, Chart-Track revealed quite an interesting piece of information. According to UK's sales monitor, the 40GB PS3 isn't moving a toe in the respective territory, counting for just 11 percent in recent PS3 sales. That's around 2,000 sold for the low-spec SKU. The remaining 80 percent are of course the sales of 60GB PS3s, which consumers are still opting for, in a definitive manner.

Time to see whether it was the lack of titles or the lack of backwards compatibility with PS2 games and smaller hard drive that was keeping it on shelves. There's just one more thing.
