Shouldn't they have slashed the price on the PS3 itself first?

If anyone even remembers, there was a time when if someone said PS3, all heads immediately turned. The machine launched, people bought it and started criticizing the lack of titles, lack of rumble on the SIXAXIS, pricey services and last - but maybe the most important - pricey console compared to everything that it lacked. Now, as a result of the PS3's bad sales in the US, Best Buy has begun slashing the price on its titles to a price range of $39.99. Be honest now. Do you care?

Not that a price reduction in titles for the PS3 isn't welcome but first of all, we're not talking premium titles like Resistance: Fall of man, but more Dynasty Warriors-like titles, as Destructoid points out. Basically, titles in Best Buy's offer include Virtua Fighter 5 and Tony Hawks Project 8, making them now 20 and 10 dollars cheaper than their MSRP, respectively, the same site reports.

How does anyone expect gamers to buy their games, if the console itself it still overpriced? And say you raise the money and get it - basically, every gamer can raise his own $600 if he desperately wants the PS3 - does this mean that from then on you'll be broke and not be able to get a title or two once every two or three months?

The thing is, the PS3 doesn't even sport that many titles. I'm curious to see how many Tony Hawks Project 8 fans are out there barging into Best Buy to get their own 10 dollars cheaper title. Not that there aren't many fans, but they've probably gotten it by now. I have nothing to say about Virtua Fighter 5 though. I'm sure there are as many fans of this title out there as raindrops in the wet season. Bad comparison, I know...

Yeah, Virtua Fighter 5 is a good deal!
